July 2010
On Tuesday night the jumper ring was half under water BUT with no rain on Saturday and a little drizzle on Sunday morning the ring was in perfect condition. Some people were convinced that the rains from south of the river were heading our way on Sunday morning but I told them that the rain clouds would not cross the river and when this person drove back to Devon at 7:31 here is what they said "LOL your right! Its almost biblical what the river is doing with those clouds." and it was. It rained and hailed all around us but did not cross Killerney.
So we had a wonderful day - more new faces again to welcome and everything went very smooth. We were all done by 5:30 and we had just over 90 entries.
A huge thank you to Courtney and Art at the gate in crossrail land, and Stephanie for stepping in last minute, Renate for ring mastering, Megan, Cody and Shelby for jump crew - amongst others who would just jump in; Nancy and Laurie for helping man the gate in hunter land and of course Marla at the gate in jumper land. Again I cannot stress how important you all are in making our horse shows a success. a thank you to Jessica and her friend who worked jump crew in hunter land as well - watching you both run out there at the same time it was like you had rehearsed it.
A few kudos to some riders: Grace A. - good job on winning the stake class ...perserverence pays off. Grace C. congrats on your day - glad to see things are working better for you this show. Cory T. you have the most amazing horse - I know you know that - and thanks for coming to our shows your friendly nature and big smile is loved by all - good luck at the event in August. As a matter of fact good luck to all our event riders who attend our shows but will be unable to make it in August as they are at an event. And to our walk-trot and lead liners you make us all remember what showing is about - fun and enjoyment of horse.....and getting candy.
Good riding to everyone - all of our jumps survived. And yes we will be having shows in the fall - September date to be posted soon. Do you want hunter and jumper or hunter only?
I would say more but I think the email from one of our new competitors below sums it up. The lady that they are referring to was Megan Davies from Devonridge Farms (thanks Megan for taking some time and helping them out).
Good Morning,
I just wanted to let you know that we had a BLAST yesterday. What great show and what a great bunch of people running the show.
You have a beautiful place and even though the schedule was a bit "stretched", it was still so much fun being there with all those wonderful horses and riders. And on such a beautiful day as well!!
I didn't get a chance to thank the lady helping in the 2' division in the morning. She was wonderful and cheerful and very good at boosting confidence. Although we had many refusals in the warm-ups, during the show one horse had 3 clear rounds and the other went over all but one jump with only one rail down...oh, and this was their 2nd show and 14 time jumping...ever!!! So we were very proud to say the least. So, whoever the smiling face lady helping coach at the show was, please give her a huge hug and a big thank you from the two "tank top" girls in the 2' division. Hot Pink Morgan might give us away.
Again, thank you for putting on such a wonderful show. You are doing a great job!!
Hope to see you at the next show,
Lindsey G.
June 2010
Well after much confusion just doing the entries, of which we had 60 and could take only 40, the annual Killerney Farms Dressage Show got off to a late start and then immediately stopped after the first ride. Apparently there are two sets of tests now - which of course was quickly pointed out to us. Apparently we had the CADORA tests which for our schooling show was right but of course we had promoted that we were running the EC tests. Anyway we managed to make adjustments for the Training Levels and then everyone from First Level and later were so great about riding the CADORA tests which they had never ridden before. Everyone had a spectacular ride and we must say if you were nervous already just showing and then having a new test to ride that you all did superb and you should all have a huge amount of confidence in yourself to go ride your regular tests at the next recognized show. We want to wish you all the best of luck if you are showing at Amberlea Dressage Show.
Was a little sad for us of course because some of our old friends that we have not seen in a long time really noticed something was missing from the show but we think he was busy up above keeping the sun shining over the show while it poured everywhere around us - well except maybe for the brief half hour of Irish weather that we had late in the afternoon but that was just to remind everyone that he is still with us in spirit.
And we made some new friends - everyone had a great time and a full and busy day.
Thank you to Wendy and Kim who had a full slate of students there. Thank you to Amanda who brought students. And a huge thank you to Darlene and Georgia who drove down for the weekend from Valleyview - always have stalls for your horses if you want to come visit again. And then we had some single riders that of course are always appreciated and welcomed and seemed to have a great time.
Want to say thank you to Barb Pratt for sitting the whole day and judging and also to Monique who stepped in real quick to help with our Beginner A B classes. A huge thank you to Louise, Nancy and our whipper in Marg, and the best reader in the world Willis. Without these people the show would never run.
Thank you also to the EAADA for the use of their ring.
AND on to the next event. Shamrock Series #3 on July 18th - this one we take whoever comes - we are anticipating close to 100 horses so I would allow about 2 hours for each of the 3 lower hunter divisions and the 2'6 jumper division. I am anticipating that the show will go till about 6:30 in the hunter ring so as you know the concession runs through lunch but please bring something a little extra maybe in case the burgers sell out early which they usually do.
